Sardinia - our destination for holiday in 2006. It is the rather undiscovered island in the heart of the Meditteranean sea with caribic like water and beautiful beaches. I think that many people hesitate to go to Sardinia by car, as we did, because they are afraid of high ferry costs to get there, but if you search in advance you can find some good prices as we did (115 EUR return trip for 2 people and a car). We basically covered the northern part of Sardinia, due to having about 10 days only, but it was still one of the best travel experices I ever had. I can recommend to go to Sardinia at the end of August / beginning September, because main areas are not crowded and prices drop a lot and I can recommend camping if you don't want to stay in one place.
